Charley married Emma after the death of his wife Nannie Vernon, Emma s sister.

Charley was a Michigender. Sharley was a tall man, red complected and had a red mustache. He was at one time Sheriff of Gregg Co. but he was farming in 1880. He seemed to be a good farmer and very industrious. He liked to change teams at noon and get another team for the afternoon so the other could rest and graze. He and Emma may have some grown children, but a relative of Charley's (an Uncle, I believe) came down from Michigan and shot and killed him while he was plowing in the field . Charley seemed to like ma and myself, and he thought there was no one like Dr. Vernon.

Jossio. They raised 8 children, 6 girls and 2 boys, their oldest girl died.

She married ALBERT RAYMOND MACE September 18, 1861 in Rusk Co., TX, USA. He was born August 07, 1833, and died August 29, 1865.

Notes for ALBERT RAYMOND MACE:
Albert was born near Lexington, IN he died near Starrville, Smith Co., TX

Rose Williams wrote of this family: " Albert R. Mace came with his parents from Scott Co. IN to Texas in 1847. They started farming near the Sabine River near Starrville, TX. His father's farm was located about 16 miles northeast of Tyler in Smith Co., TX and he received a letter patent from the state of Texas for 320 acres of land on 18 July 1853. Albert R. lived at home and helped his father farm.

Albert and Sarah were married by J. C. Haynes , J. P. in Rusk Co., TX. Albert and Sarah lived at or near his father's farm for a few months before the beginning of the Civil War, where he helped his now widowed mother with the farm.

Albert enlisted in the Confederate Army on 9 May 1962 in Smith Co, TX with J.H.L. Stillwell's Co., Co. G, 11lth Texas Infantry, as a private. On 20 Jan 1863 he was given a 50 day sick furlough to return to his family near Starrville. He died 29 Aug 1865 due to illness and disease incurred during the Civil War. Sarah died soon after. Sarah is said to have died when daughter Kate was 2 years old. From Hardy Family in America, Vol. l, p.20, by John A. Hardy.
