Charley married Emma after the death of his wife Nannie Vernon, Emma s
sister.

Charley was a Michigender. Sharley was a tall man, red complected a nd
had a
red mustache. He was at one time Sheriff of Gregg Co. but he was farming
in
1880. He seemed to be a good farmer and very industrious. He liked to
change teams at noon and get another team for the afternoon so the other
could rest and graze. He and Emma may have some grown children, but a
relative of Charley's (an Uncle, I believe) came down from Michigan and
shot and killed him while he was plowing in the field . Charley seemed
to like ma and myself, and he thought there was no one like Dr. Vernon.
