Notes for JOHN C. GILLENWATER:
John Gillenwaters and his wife left Tenn and migrated to Effingham Co., Illinois, where in July of 1842, their son William P. Gillenwaters was born. Both John and his wife were born in Hawkins Co. and John died in Illinois in 1843, and his wife a few months later, and the son William P. Gillenwaters returned to Hawkins Co. and to the home of his grandfather, where he worked for a year or more with his grandfather in the saddle shop , and then went to Strawberry Plains to school after which he taught for several seasons and studied law, and finally returned to Hawkins Co and became one of the leading lawyers of Rogersville, William P. Gillenwaters married in 1865, Miss
Amanda Sexton, by whom he had several sons and daughters, whose descendants are scattered.
