Generation No. 2

2. MARY2 ANDERSON (JAMES1) was born Abt. 1719 in "Arnols" Surry Co., VA, and died 1769 in Augusta, GA. She married EDWARD EPPES Abt. 1738 in Surry Co. VA, son of DANIEL EPPES and MARY. He was born Abt. 1710 in Surry Co.,Virginia, and died Abt. 1779 in Sussex Co, VA.

Notes for M
ARY ANDERSON:
Mary Anderson was the daughter of James Anderson and his wife, Mary Jordan, who of a daughter of George Jordan and granddaughter of Arthur Jordan, brother of Col. George Jordan, Atty. General of Virginia in 1670.

Notes from Patrick Anderson say that Mary died bef. 1779 in Sussex Co. VA.

Mary would have been born on her father's Surry Co. plantation called "Arnols." apparently there was little contact with her brothers later in Amelia as no oral tradition or correspondence regarding Mary's family passed on to the later generations. He says there is disagreement in some instance with the work of Eva Turner Clark, Examination of the original will be the only was to resolve any errors, this may refer to the birthdate of James, who I have born in March and baptized in April 29.

Notes for E
DWARD EPPES:
Born abt. 1717 probably Prince George or Surry Co. VA.

Edward Eppes wife is not mentioned in his will of 8 June 1779 Proved 17 Feb 1780.

Edward Eppes son of Daniel was probably born about the time his father removed from Prince George to Surry Co., 1717, and spent his life in that section of Surry which, in 1754, was cut off to form Sussex . The names of his children, as given below, are found recorded in the Albemarle Parish Register. The names of the sponsors in baptism of these children are interesting as showing friends and relatives of this family (see Edward Eppes, Virginia Abstracts). Edward Eppes married Mary Anderson, daughter of James Anderson and his wife, Mary Jordan, who was a daughter of George Jordan and granddaughter of Arthur Jordan, brother of Colonel George Jordan, Attorney General of Virginia, 1670. Edward Eppes evidently survived his wife as her name is not mentioned in his will of 8 June 1779, proved 17 Feb. 1780.
After certain specific gifts to his children, he directs that there remainder of his property shall be sold and the proceeds divided equally among his surviving children, Sarah Tomlinson, ANNE GIBBONS, Mary Moss, James Eppes, and Susanna Harrison. His executors were his son James Eppes and son-in-law Henry Moss, Jr. Witnesses are Robert Watson, Susanna Moss, Martha Meachum Sussex Co. will book C page 348 Inventory of the estate is filed 2/25/1780 on page 362 . For the birth and christening of the children is recorded in: "Register of Albemarle Parish, Surry and Sussex Co.'s, 1739-1778", Transcribed and Edited by Gertrude R. B. Richards, The National Society Colonial Dames of America in the commonwealth of Virginia, 1958.
